Spring is coming! Slowly the days are getting longer and this week we have had unusually good weather. Word on the street is that this weekend will be a sunny one. And yet the days haven’t become much milder, it is still very cold out there.
I have inherited the bad fortune of very dry skin and as long as temperatures remain arctic, my skin will remain dry and fragile, my hair will be brittle and my lips have a tendency to split. Here are just a few of the products that have helped me beat the blues this Winter.
BRITTLE HAIR – VO5 HOT OIL
I never had particularly dry and brittle hair. But ever since I added blond streaks to my hair a few years ago, my hair has suffered. And unless I keep my hair well moisturised I end up with a bird’s nest on top of my head. Vo5 Hot Oil is my choice of despair. When my hair is in a catastrophic state and I fear that the only solution is to cut it all off, this product somehow manages to restore my hair to a healthy and soft state.
I heat the oil up in a mug with hot water while I shower and drench my hair. The oil needs to be applied to moist hair. Because it is a very intense treatment I leave it in my hair for a maximum of five minutes. I then wash the whole lot out with shampoo and finish my hair treatment in the usual way.
TRESEMME SPLIT REMEDY SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
In my constant search for new products to save my brittle hair, I found TreSemme’s Split Remedy Shampoo and Conditioner. I now use both the Split Remedy shampoo and the Split Remedy conditioner on a regular basis and have noticed a huge improvement. This duo is a bit of a miracle worker and has helped me tame my crazy hair. It moistens my hair, reduces a large amount of split ends yet doesn’t weigh down my hair down like some other products. I really can’t recommend this stuff enough. I use the shampoo mainly on my roots and then apply the conditioner to the tips of my hair.
TRESEMME KERATIN SMOOTH TREATMENT MASK
About once a week I treat my hair to Tresemme Keratin Smooth Deep Treatment Mask. A year ago I had my hair straightened with Keratin and it looked beautiful. So I thought any product containing Keratin can only help my dry hair. This hair treatment is extremely heavy, so I only apply it to the ends of my hair. This way it doesn’t way down my hair and just deeply moisturises the dry ends.
ORGANIX ARGAN OIL OF MOROCCO
I tend to shower in the evening when I get back from work. So this is the perfect time to treat my hair to a little overnight indulgence. I always run some renewing Organix Argan Oil of Morroco into my hair after an evening shower and just let it work it’s magic while I sleep. The product feels quite oily straight out of the bottle. But I tend to rub it between my fingers before applying it and this changes the consistency ever so slightly. Again by applying it just to the tips it never feels to heavy in my hair.
SUPERDRUG HAIR THERAPY OIL
Finally every morning my super pampered hair is spoilt with some Superdrug Hair Therapy Oil with Argan. After the dry shampoo has soaked up any remaining grease and I have brushed through my hair with my trusty Tangle Teezer, just a tiny bit of this oil goes onto (you’ve guessed it) the tips of my hair. This oil has a bit of a lighter consistency than Organix Product, and thus I use this in the morning. I love the smell of this oil and it lingers on for most of the day.
SANCTUARY SPA CREME SOUFFLE
So by now you will have noticed that I really do spoil my hair during the colder months. But my skin isn’t left far behind. Without fail I moisturise my entire body after each shower. And Sanctuary Spa Crème Souffle is the moisturiser of my choice. Not only does this cream have the most amazing smell, it also has a extremely indulgent texture. Similar to a body butter, yet as light as a mousse, it’s name Crème Souffle describes it perfectly. It is absorbed by my skin almost instantly and therefore doesn’t leave any greasy marks on my pyjamas. It comes in a huge tub and isn’t tested on nimals. What’s not to love about it?
ESTEE LAUDER ADVANCED NIGHT REPAIR
My mother gave me a little sample of Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair and after trying it out one night, I rushed out the next morning to get a full bottle. My skin had never felt so soft before. It basically helps retain the moisture in your skin, whilst repair any damaged caused by pollution and UV rays. So after my evening shower I put a dot of this lotion on each of my fingertips and then apply it to my face before moisturising as usual. This has changed my world for the better. Although advertised as an anti aging product, you do not have to be over 30 to use this and notice the difference it makes to your skin.
LIZ EARLE SKIN REPAIR MOISTURISER
I moisturise my face religiously. I already talked about My Skincare Routine in a previous post, so I shall not linger too long on the subject. But one of my favourite moisturisers is Liz Earl Skin Repair Moisturise for Dry and Sensitive Skin. This cream sinks in fast and keeps my face moisturised the whole day.h.
